Louis Vuitton’s 37th America’s Cup in Barcelona
As summer ends, the Louis Vuitton 37th America’s Cup is set to take place in Barcelona, showcasing a month-long sailing competition where the winner claims the oldest sports trophy. Originating in 1851, the America’s Cup is the longest-running competitive sailing event, evolving over time with various partners, locations, and participants. Louis Vuitton, collaborating with the regatta since 1983, is the primary partner for this year’s event, underscoring the Maison’s dedication to excellence and tradition.
Barcelona, renowned for its pleasant weather, coastal proximity, and vibrant atmosphere, is the perfect setting for this historic event. From August 29 to October 27, a series of regattas will feature top sailing teams. Initially, five teams—INEOS Britannia, Alinghi Red Bull Racing Team, Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli, NYYC American Magic, and Orient Express Racing Team—will vie for the Louis Vuitton Cup title. The winning team will then challenge the current America’s Cup Defender, the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron, represented by Emirates Team New Zealand, the titleholder since 2017.
Louis Vuitton has created newly designed trophies for the event, reflecting the house’s elegance and innovation. The Louis Vuitton Cup winner receives the Auld Mug, presented in a Trophy Trunk adorned with the iconic LV logo, hand-painted red, and lined with the Maison’s signature red edges. This Trophy Trunk is a tribute to Louis Vuitton’s heritage in luxury luggage. Additionally, the Auld Mug has been updated to a silver trophy crafted by a renowned silversmith.
Complementing the month-long event, Louis Vuitton has launched a capsule collection inspired by the nautical spirit of the America’s Cup. The collection is segmented into three categories to cater to all maritime enthusiasts. “Riding the Wave” features items like windbreakers and waterproof bags for sailing enthusiasts; “A Day on Deck” offers colorful and creatively designed swimwear and beachwear for a more relaxed vibe. “Elegant Summer Evening” includes dresses, blazers, and loafers for a sophisticated summer look.
Beyond watching the regattas, Louis Vuitton has created an immersive experience for spectators. Kiosks will line the marina, offering a city guide highlighting Barcelona’s charming locales. The America’s Cup Race Village at Port Vell offers free viewing of the events, daily presentations, food, drinks, and activities. Spectators can also enjoy the events from the beaches between Port Vell and Port Olímpic.
