Culinary Delights in Formentera
If you’re one of the lucky ones still on vacation and find yourself in Formentera or planning to visit, here’s a must-stop during your stay: the new cocktail club and restaurant at the five-star Five Flowers Hotel & Spa. They offer delicious cocktails and exquisite dishes that will transport you to different countries without leaving your seat. As they describe it, their menu is “a passport-free journey through the most enticing culinary destinations in the world, from Lebanon to Mexico, Japan, or Peru.” On top of that, being located on the hotel’s rooftop, it provides stunning views of the entire island, making it a prime spot to watch the sunset.
So there you have it. Magical sunsets, refreshing cocktails, and culinary delights – the perfect combination whether you’re staying at the hotel or elsewhere on the island, because The Five Flowers Sky is open to all. The hotel is situated in Es Pujols, standing impressively in pristine white with a facade adorned by the large white flowers that give it its name. It is the only five-star hotel on the island, boasting a large pool on the lower level and an infinity pool on the rooftop with views of the Ses Salines Natural Park, Es Vedrà, and, of course, the turquoise waters characteristic of the island.
What Can You Eat Here?
We were recommended the sushi, so we started there: delicious. We tried the fried shrimp nigiri in its own juice and the spicy tuna gunkan with fish roe and mayonnaise. But there are more options, such as the seared salmon nigiri with kabayaki sauce and fig jam or the salmon gunkan with mango chutney. And from Japan to Mexico, we finished with some corn tortilla tacos with slow-cooked roasted pork stew, pickled spring onions in vinegar, and Mexican sauce. They were more like tostadas, but they were excellent, and we didn’t have seconds only because we wanted to try the dessert – assorted mochi (coconut, matcha, chocolate, and raspberry), which were the perfect ending to an impeccable dinner.
Other main dishes on the menu include roast lamb skewers with lime-seasoned vegetables and yogurt sauce, stewed pork bao with Japanese plum mayonnaise and Bloody Mary ketchup, and garlic lobster cake with butter and a spicy touch. Add to this some starters to kick off the evening (ham, cheese board, Formentera prawns) and a list of cocktails with enticing names like Don’t Worry, Be Apple, Al Alba, Tres Continentes, or Tocant el Cielo, and you’ve got the complete menu. We tried the Smoked Margarita with mezcal and tequila, which was as delicious as everything else.
